Planning time ashore for the wet season

A practical starting point for storage dates, maintenance and looking after your boat while it is ashore.

Start with the dates and the boat

Decide when you want the vessel ashore and when you expect to use it again. Send its length, beam, draft and weight with your enquiry, and make clear which dates are flexible. Spot On Marine offers wet-season hardstand storage in Darwin; space and vessel arrangements need to be confirmed directly with the team.

Decide what the stay is for

Storage can also be an opportunity to organise maintenance, but be specific about what you intend to do. List any cleaning, inspection or fabrication work you would like to discuss. If the boat is simply staying ashore while you are away, say so. These are different plans with different practical requirements.

Prepare the boat for the time ashore

Create a preparation list for your own vessel, using the instructions for its equipment and systems. Consider personal belongings, food, loose gear and access to items that may need attention. Ask the yard about site arrangements before arrival. Do not assume storage includes ongoing checks or maintenance; discuss any such expectations explicitly.

Keep someone contactable

Give the yard a reliable phone number and nominate a contact if you expect to be difficult to reach. Agree on how access will work and who can make decisions about the boat. If you need a third party to attend, discuss this with the team before making arrangements.

Plan the return as well as the arrival

Allow time to organise any work required before relaunching. Contact the yard ahead of your preferred departure and confirm the next steps. If your dates change, update the team early. The most useful storage enquiry includes both ends of the stay and a clear idea of what needs to happen between them.
